Meditation trains your attention. Hypnosis aims it at a result. Both start in the same place, with your body relaxed and your focus turned inward, and from there they go in different directions. From the outside, ten minutes of one can look identical to ten minutes of the other.
What meditation is doing
Meditation is open-ended and awareness-based. You sit, you notice what shows up, and you let it move on. There is no destination for the session. The practice is observation and presence, and it lasts as long as you keep sitting.
Most meditation traditions also steer away from content. The session hands you nothing to repeat and nothing to work on. You watch, and the watching is the practice.
That openness is a strength for what meditation is for. You get better at noticing, and the noticing carries over into ordinary days. It leaves the direction up to you.
What hypnosis is doing
Hypnosis is goal-directed and outcome-focused. A session has a subject and a direction, and an ending it walks you toward. The relaxed state is the doorway, and the suggestions are the actual work.
Once you are settled, the session goes after intentional subconscious change. It installs new cognitive frameworks: fresh wording for how you read a situation, a different response where an old one used to fire. That is deliberate work on one topic at a time.
Which is why a hypnosis session sounds different from the start. There is a topic named out loud, language chosen for that topic, and a close that brings you back. Every minute of it is pointed somewhere.
Side by side:
- Meditation stays open-ended. A hypnosis session has a target.
- Meditation emphasizes observation and presence.
- Hypnosis emphasizes intentional subconscious change.
- Meditation usually avoids content. Hypnosis installs it on purpose.
How our sessions are built
Every session in the hypnosis library is built as an intervention. It picks one thing and works on it until the recording closes. That is a design choice. A session that tried to cover four subjects would dilute all four. You stay awake and in control the whole way, which is covered in will I lose control during hypnosis.
If you already meditate, keep meditating. The two do different jobs and they sit together without friction. The same goes for subliminals, and you can run both in the same week.
Before your first one, read how to prepare for a session. A quiet room where nobody interrupts you covers most of it.
